McNair Law Firm announced that two of its Columbia attorneys have been recognized among the 2013 Legal Elite of the Midlands by Columbia Business Monthly. Michael M. Beal and Erik P. Doerring were selected by their peers as leaders in their respective areas of practice.

Mr. Beal, recognized in the area of Bankruptcy and Creditor Rights, is a graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law. He works primarily with financial institutions, distressed companies and committees in out-of-court restructurings, Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases and related litigation and transactional matters. Mr. Beal also enjoys mediating complex bankruptcy and commercial matters and completed the American Bankruptcy Institute and St. Johns University School of Law 40-hour mediation training program. He currently serves as President of the Turnaround Management Association, Carolinas Chapter, as well as Chairman of The Palmetto Club.

Mr. Doerring, recognized in the area of Tax Law, received his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law and his Master of Laws in Taxation from New York University. His practice focuses on business and tax representation with an emphasis on tax controversy and economic development. Mr. Doerring is a frequent speaker on tax issues before the South Carolina Bar Association, South Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants and other professional groups and trade organizations. He is also the editor and an author of the LexisNexis publication, “South Carolina State Tax Practice Insights,” as well as “Tax Law,” a blog by several of McNair’s tax attorneys.

The recipients will be honored at a reception on October 15^th at the Capital City Club.
