McNair Law Firm, P.A. is pleased to announce that this past November marked the 14th year the Firm has hosted an annual Thanksgiving dinner for the women, children and staff residing in Sistercare’s shelters.

Sistercare (sistercare.com) helps survivors of domestic violence and their children in Fairfield, Kershaw, Lexington, Newberry and Richland counties. Each year the dinner serves approximately 66 residents and staff from Sistercare’s three shelters, which typically remain at maximum capacity.

The meal of ham, turkey and homemade goodies is prepared and served by volunteers from the McNair firm who help serve, wash dishes, and participate in the dinner, which is followed by games and gifts for each woman and child.

The dinner began in 1999 with a suggestion from former McNair paralegal Kerry Collier (now a devoted alum). Since then E-Beth Blitch has spearheaded the dinner and other Sistercare projects throughout the year.

The event is so integral to the firm’s company culture that many alums come back each year to serve. “Many of us have worked together at the firm and on this project for so many years it feels natural to get together at Thanksgiving and do good,” said Blitch. “For many of us, it is the beginning of our holiday season.”

McNair is already anticipating its 15th year hosting the annual event. As Blitch points out, plans for the event begin many months ahead of the dinner date. Executive Director of Sistercare Nancy Barton says the staff at Sistercare truly appreciates the work McNair puts into the dinner. “The dinner enables the battered women and children to feel supported and cared for by complete strangers in the community.”
